Most people do not have their dream job. Many people around the world go to work because they have to, because it pays the bills, because this is what expected of them or because they have nothing else to do. The lucky ones get up in the morning with excitement, leave home (or not) and spend most of their days doing something they feel passionate about.
I have to say I am one of the lucky ones. I get up every day and get paid to do something I love. It does not feel like work, more like living my passion and my purpose, which is inspiring and motivating and helps a lot with getting up in the morning.
Research shows that doing the work we love improves many aspects of our life and makes us happier. Happiness, as you know, affects our health, our relationships, our finances, our mental wellbeing and our work. It is a never-ending cycle. We love our work, which makes us happy and improves our productivity and the enjoyment of our work, which bring us more happiness. This way, being happy about your work is like passive income that keeps on growing.
One of the focuses of my life coaching practice is the improvement of my clients’ work life. It can be their relationships at work, the enjoyment and fulfillment they get from work, their productivity at work, their work-life balance or their income. The great thing about this is that every improvement in one aspect of their work improves all other aspects too.
One trick I teach my clients is to focus on their success at work as a way to improve their emotional state consciously. This starts a fantastic cycle. I call this state “getting up in the morning with excitement” (as opposed to “dreading getting up in the morning and going to work with a negative attitude”). You are in this state when you are excited about going to work in the morning, even if you are tired, and at the end of the day, you feel satisfied and say to yourself, “I have made a difference today”.
I make a difference every day and it feels great. This great feeling touches my clients and spreads like a ripple to everyone who crosses our path.
High emotional intelligence is the key to your dream job
Finding your life’s purpose is important and having high emotional intelligence to live this purpose is important. Without these things, you will not be able to get over the fears, the limiting beliefs, your upbringing, debilitating past events, your “personal drama” and the stories your tell yourself to justify procrastination and live a life of achievement and fulfillment.
You may be able to dream, but will never be able to make your dreams a reality without emotional intelligence. Dreams of a dream job are important, but without the emotional capacity to make them happen, they are only wishes. With this kind of dreaming, you cannot pay at the supermarket or travel the world.
Recently, I was asked by my colleague Samantha Ibarguen to take part in a special event, called “Break Free from the Cubicle” Global Summit – a free virtual event, in which 18 world experts give you golden rules, tools, tips and strategies to bust out of the job you hate and create the job of your dreams. The experts will give you tips and tools to find passion and purpose, to overcome fears, to uncover blind spots that keep you from living your full potential and to create plans and structures to take you to the next level towards your dream job.
I would like to encourage you to take advantage of this event and get the advice and reality-tested strategies from this panel of experts.
As one of these experts, I can tell you that what we are giving you is inspiring and very practical. So sign up for the “Break Free from the Cubicle” Global Summit to secure your place. Again, this is a free event, so take an advantage of it.
Remember, happiness is a choice and finding the dream job is also a choice.
Happy life!
